Hi I’m Dyl from Trout Fix Nz,
I am based in Otorohanga West Coast of the North Island and guide the Waikato, King Country and Bay of Plenty areas. I’ve spent years learning the river systems and fisheries and know the waters well.
From low land streams to the amazing backcountry rivers Nz has to offer, I'm here to help you have a great day/days out. I’m happy to take out beginners right through to well seasoned anglers.
I have a passion for all styles of fly fishing but have a particular love for dry fly dropper fishing in small tributaries chasing both brown and rainbow trout.
A bit about me I am born and bred in New Zealand I’ve been fishing since I was old enough to hold a rod and that fishing addiction turned in to fly fishing over the years. My love for fly fishing has taken me all around the beautiful country of New Zealand and abroad.
Once becoming a seasoned angler in fly fishing, I found a love of teaching and seeing my friends and family catching fish on a fly rod in some of New Zealand's amazing locations that fly fishing takes us. So of course guiding professionally came along as no surprise. I have modest accommodation available in Otorohanga if required, there is some gear and rod hire available also if needed.
Let’s chat and set up a day suited to you and create some rad memories together.
For bookings and enquiries you can reach me on either Facebook or Instagram @troutfixnz or by phone +64 21247 0990 or email me by clicking the link below

And it’s in the blood. His father and uncle are both fly fishing guides in the Otago and Southland regions, which has enabled Todd to build on their comprehensive in-depth knowledge of the fisheries. His approach is based around teaching, and he believes every day on the river is an opportunity to gain more understanding and develop as an angler.

Being a sixth-generation Nelson-based angler Zane has an unmatched repertoire of special locations, local access connections, and specialist knowledge that is highly valuable to visiting anglers.
Zane Mirfin holds a current skippers ticket (SRL) that allows operation in all inshore waters and our commercially surveyed 4.1 metre aluminium pontoon boat MNZ 134307 is ideal for guiding 1 or 2 anglers to a full range of lakes, lagoons, estuaries and coastal blue water opportunities. With up to 40 saltwater fish species available, our anglers catch yellowtail kingfish, snapper, albacore tuna, trevally, kahawai, barracouta, blue cod, red gurnard, tarakihi, mackerel, groper, sharks, flounder, warehou, wrasse, dory, squid, and many more...
Specialising in multi-day fishing trips we fish throughout Tasman Bay and the Marlborough Sounds, and highly recommend the fish-rich areas of Delaware Bay and Okiwi Bay.
Wade fish or stand & cast up-front in our highly stable pontoon vessel that is silently propelled by an auxiliary electric motor. Zane’s Golden Bay base is Rangihaeata, near Takaka township, close to fine dining, bars, cafes and many accommodation options at days end.

Contact John HamillI started fly fishing at the age of 12 and have been completely immersed in it since. I have fished all over the South Island, particularly in Otago for the last 16 years. As a recreational angler I would fish about 140 days a year, always with adventurous attitude. In 2015 I decided it was time to put that experience to good use, so I became a full time fly fishing guide. I was born in Ireland but visited New Zealand on a one year working holiday visa in 2002. That was it, I was hooked! I returned every October for the following 9 years for 6 months at a time.. just to fish! I also fished much of the globe during those explorative years.
In 2011 I made New Zealand my home. Lake fishing was a big part of my life in Ireland and I've adapted many Irish tactics to suit New Zealand lakes and rivers. I have written about fly fishing for over 10 years with most of that effort going into my very active blog. In 2005 I was one of the first anglers in New Zealand to receive the Casting Instructor Certificate from the Federation of Fly Fishers. I continue to teach fly casting today. In 2008 I was the co-host for a Discovery Channel fly fishing TV show called "Fish This", while more recently took the lime light with Jeff Forsee in "Pure Fly New Zealand" which aired for the first time in October 2016. We have since filmed another episode for the second series which was big hit, representing the series at the “Rise Fly Fishing Film Festival”. The episode from the first series is available on the inflight entertainment on Air NZ! I have over 30 ten minute films on youtube, so there's plenty ways to get to know me a bit before you drop me a line! Fly fishing is my life and I'm dedicated to it. You can contact me on +64 22 0461768 or via my web site.
Miles specializes in both the summer stream mouth, and autumn shoreline trophy rainbow fisheries of the Bay of Plenty
High summer sees some of the shallower lakes in the Bay of Plenty heat up, sending huge numbers of rainbows and monster browns into the cold water spring stream mouths. Shallow wading flats fishing to large schools of trout has to be seen to be believed, with Jan/Feb/Mar being prime season. Suitable for the beginner to catch their first trout, or the expert looking to hone technique or target the monster browns.
Then in Autumn the trophy rainbows return to their release points in April/May/June/July. These are without doubt the biggest rainbows taken off the North Island each year. It is shore based fly fishing, usually from your deck chair on the beach, and can be described as completely relaxing, yet explosive, with fish up to 15lb's being encountered. Again, perfect for the beginner, or trophy hunter alike! May and June offer a shot at the "Full House" - with a trophy brown off the stream and a trophy rainbow off the shoreline in one day. Perfect option for a day off your cruise ship from the Port of Tauranga!
Contact Miles RushmerJeff Forsee and Jack Scott of Aotearoa Anglers in Wanaka offer a unique still-water fishing experience from their purpose-built NRS fishing rafts. Fishing the lake edges for cruising trout from the comfort of the raft is both fun and effective.
These oar powered craft offer a stealthy and peaceful approach to a day on the water. Rafts also give access to deeper channels, weed beds, muddy flats, and hidden corners that are otherwise difficult or impossible to reach on foot. They also provide a comfortable platform and a height advantage for sight fishing, similar to the experience of fishing for bonefish from a flats skiff.
We employ a variety of tactics, from nymphs and dry flies to the classic wooly bugger. You'll actively fish from the boat as your guide skillfully navigates through the most productive waters. Along with the fishing, taking in the breathtaking scenery of Central Otago from the raft is an experience in itself.
We welcome fly fishermen and spin anglers of all skill levels, from beginners to experts. Our rafts are suitable for anglers of all fitness levels, accommodating up to two anglers per raft, with a maximum group size of four across our two rafts.
Both Jack and Jeff are accredited New Zealand Raft Association guides, with current swift water rescue certifications and high-level outdoor first aid training. They are also proudly certified by AdventureMark, the highest safety accreditation for adventure activities in New Zealand.

He loves to add an element of adventure to his fishing guiding by accessing more remote waters, often by utilising his 4WD vehicle. He guides a wide range of waters from small streams and spring creeks to the larger freestone rivers, and offers exciting still-water sight fishing opportunities for large cruising Brown trout along shallow lake margins. Additionally for those guests wanting to utilise a helicopter to quickly access remote headwater fisheries, he caters for single or multi-day backcountry heli-fishing trips, both in Canterbury and on the West Coast.
Chris offers a combination of different package options, and will always try to utilise a variety of waters chosen to suit the sometimes varied physical abilities of his clients, in his quest to provide them with the fly-fishing trip of a lifetime. If necessary, he is always prepared to travel between regions to access fishing locations experiencing better sight fishing conditions in the often highly variable weather conditions that the South Island can seasonally experience, and provides a variety of inter-regional tour options including a pick-up from distant locations. He caters for anglers of all skill levels with quality fishing tackle and custom “Chris tied/designed” flies being utilised to provide every advantage to his guests.
Chris wants a day out on the water with him to not only to be a successful days fishing but also to be an interesting and educational kiwi outdoor experience, as he likes to incorporate information about NZ wildlife, natural history and ecology into a day on the water chasing trout. You will see his passion for the NZ outdoors come alive in his easy going, humorous and friendly attitude towards helping others to achieve their goal of catching some beautiful NZ trout.

Contact Mike FranshamNZPFGA members Jack Scott and Jeff Forsee operate Aotearoa Anglers, based in Wanaka, and offer a wide range of NZ fishing options including drift fishing from two purpose-built NRS Slipstream rafts. While drift boats or rafts might be commonplace in North America there are relatively few here in NZ and Jack and Jeff are proud to be some of the select operators offering this unique New Zealand fishing experience.
You will actively fish from the raft as your guide skilfully navigates downstream, hitting the most likely spots along the way. Anglers will use a variety of techniques, from dry flies and nymphs to streamers, based on the season and water conditions. Streamer fishing is a common and effective technique and there is nothing more exciting than seeing a brown or rainbow trout chase down your fly in the gin-clear water!
Drift boat fishing offers a fantastic way to enjoy New Zealand's waters and epic scenery, accommodating anglers of all levels and physical abilities, ensuring no one misses out on this magical experience. Fishing from a raft is a comfortable, enjoyable, and fun way to fish during any time of the year - including winter which offers great angling opportunities for migratory brown and rainbow trout.
Both Jack and Jeff are accredited New Zealand Raft Association guides, with current swift water rescue certifications and high-level outdoor first aid training. They are also proudly certified by AdventureMark, the highest safety accreditation for adventure activities in New Zealand.

Contact Scotty MillerI'm Barry Perkins, a 4th generation New Zealander, and have lived and fished in Southland for the last 40 years, spending the first 20 years dairy farming close to the Mataura River. During this time I have gained extensive local knowledge of the Southland area and it’s rivers, and I am confident I can show you some of the best fly fishing that you will find anywhere in the world. In 2001 we sold our farm and moved to Gore where and when I started guiding .
The Mataura River is world renowned for "Match the Hatch" fishing, however we are spoilt for choice, with over 25 other rivers and streams within one hour’s drive from Gore.I live and fish locally and consider it a privilege to guide visiting anglers on the Mataura and other Southland Rivers. After living here for many years I know the rivers intimately, and friendships with local landowners allow me access to some epic fishing spots.I specialize in Dry Fly and Nymph fishing and carry two fully rigged rods for clients, one for Dry Fly fishing, the other for Nymphing, so that we can fish off the top whenever there are rising fish without me wasting your valuable fishing time re-tying flies.
Whether you are a beginner or an expert, I have loads of patience, heaps of local knowledge, and expertise to help you experience the thrill of landing a hard fighting wild brown trout from our uncrowded Southland rivers. I do not charge a deposit or cancellation fee. Very occasionally a booking may need to be amended or cancelled due to river or weather conditions. As this is no fault of either party, I believe the client should not be financially disadvantaged. I will always try to find clear fishable water, and with over 25 rivers within one hours drive, can usually do so. Telephone: +64 3 208 6476

Contact Simon CruickshankI first fly-fished the Tongariro River when our family moved to Turangi in the early 1980s. At this time I was still in high school, occasionally cutting class to go fishing! After finishing school, I started guiding with my father in 1984 as well as working at the Turangi Fly Shop Sporting Life. During the early 90s, I started guiding for Tongariro Lodge where I have been Head Guide since 2001.
With the advent of covid I went full circle when the borders closed by returning to Sporting Life and guiding mostly New Zealanders who were rediscovering their love of trout fishing. Now the borders are open I am again back to guiding full time. Having over 35 years guiding experience I provide for all levels of fly-fishing ability – from novice anglers to seasoned veterans. Being based in Turangi not only gives us access to the local Taupo rivers but also back country areas. I can also provide a helicopter or rafting option to get you to the more remote trout fishing areas.
I also run a fully licenced boat on Lake Taupo specialising in fly-fishing the famous Tongariro River Delta. This is great option for when the feet are a little tired. I look forward to fulfilling your dream New Zealand fly fishing experience.

Contact Kevin PayneWhen all the rivers are blown and the weather conditions are dreadful we still have an amazing opportunity to fish and have a great day or two. Canterbury, North Canterbury and the West Coast, were we can transport you in a well maintained late model 4WD, have many lakes fishable from the shore, some offering year-round angling. Surely it will test your ability to spot, cast, entice the trout but also and most importantly the strike.
The lake fishing in New Zealand is exciting, fun and rewarding; the fish living in still waters are powerful, fast and cunning. By mid December damsels and dragonflies are plentiful and seeing Brownies jumping 2 feet out of the water to catch one of these provokes an exceptional adrenaline rush. There are lakes around the region within an hour driving and the methods we use go from indicator which is generally as dry fly and a suspended nymph, spotting the fish walking along the lake margins while casting a dry fly or a nymph, or streamers.
We will not take you to crowded big lakes, as we would rather offer you the wilderness of remote smaller pieces of water where an encounter with other anglers is rare. Fish size in such lakes varies from 2 to 3 lbs and you could catch a couple of dozens fish a day, to larger fish up to 6/7 lbs. Those brown trout are big fighters and have a tendency to offer a magnificent spectacle with jumps and back flips and only surrender after a long battle. In South Canterbury lakes also have big rainbows. Despite of the abundance of fish in the lakes we encourage catch and release. You can contact me on +64 3 315 7499 or +64 21 211 3462

Having begun fly fishing at 4 years old on the rivers of Southland under the guidance of his grandfather, Gisborne’s Cory Scott has gone on to win 11X New Zealand Fly Fishing Championships titles, been a part of 6X New Zealand World Championships Teams and has been a Fly Fishing guide for 20 years.
Yet his real passion is the backcountry fisheries of the East Cape and across New Zealand, which he integrates all this competition and international fishing experience and a multitude of different techniques to fool the wily trout of the NZ mountains. As your guide, Cory is available to share his learnings and techniques obtained from many years under the tutelage of the Master, the trout itself, as well as the multitude of learnings picked up across the country and the world, during the heat of the world’s toughest competitions where fooling that next fish is the difference between winning and losing, which he has fine-tuned to NZ conditions.
While Cory boasts a vast knowledge of rivers, streams and lakes throughout NZ, it is on the East Cape of the North Island which Cory is based and calls home. This region is one of the most isolated and rugged parts of the country, and the many fisheries that make up the Te Urewera and Raukumara Ranges are where Cory has an intimate connection, knowing each like the back of his hand.
The isolated nature of the region results in un-pressured fisheries, where you will be hard pressed to see another angler on your journeys. This has created some of the most stunning fisheries you will find on this planet. And Cory’s regular clients attest this.
Cory is a witty character, who loves to share a laugh with his clients, while at the same time standing true to his dedicated and professional approach to your special day or days. And by way of his passion, etiquette and commitment to being the best for himself and for his clients, he has forged a reputation as one of the most sought after guides in the country.

I appreciate a guide who will share information, and understand what my goals are when I fish. Help me fish hard when I want… or back off and give me space if that’s what I need. That’s what I will do for you. I will look after you, in the way I like to be looked after when I engage a guide. I want you to have the trip I want to have when I travel to fish. Sometimes it comes down to one guide, one day, one river.. and the best outcome… That is what I want for you.I love 3-5 day adventures with clients that want to go 'back-country' in a hut/s.. or travel to a handful of rivers over several days in a region. I spend my guiding time between North Canterbury and the mid reaches of the South Island's West Coast where I have my own base/fishing retreat with a log burner, dartboard and a cold beverage on hand.
