Miles specializes in both the summer stream mouth, and autumn shoreline trophy rainbow fisheries of the Bay of Plenty
High summer sees some of the shallower lakes in the Bay of Plenty heat up, sending huge numbers of rainbows and monster browns into the cold water spring stream mouths. Shallow wading flats fishing to large schools of trout has to be seen to be believed, with Jan/Feb/Mar being prime season. Suitable for the beginner to catch their first trout, or the expert looking to hone technique or target the monster browns.
Then in Autumn the trophy rainbows return to their release points in April/May/June/July. These are without doubt the biggest rainbows taken off the North Island each year. It is shore based fly fishing, usually from your deck chair on the beach, and can be described as completely relaxing, yet explosive, with fish up to 15lb's being encountered. Again, perfect for the beginner, or trophy hunter alike! May and June offer a shot at the "Full House" - with a trophy brown off the stream and a trophy rainbow off the shoreline in one day. Perfect option for a day off your cruise ship from the Port of Tauranga!

Having begun fly fishing at 4 years old on the rivers of Southland under the guidance of his grandfather, Gisborne’s Cory Scott has gone on to win 11X New Zealand Fly Fishing Championships titles, been a part of 6X New Zealand World Championships Teams and has been a Fly Fishing guide for 20 years.
Yet his real passion is the backcountry fisheries of the East Cape and across New Zealand, which he integrates all this competition and international fishing experience and a multitude of different techniques to fool the wily trout of the NZ mountains. As your guide, Cory is available to share his learnings and techniques obtained from many years under the tutelage of the Master, the trout itself, as well as the multitude of learnings picked up across the country and the world, during the heat of the world’s toughest competitions where fooling that next fish is the difference between winning and losing, which he has fine-tuned to NZ conditions.
While Cory boasts a vast knowledge of rivers, streams and lakes throughout NZ, it is on the East Cape of the North Island which Cory is based and calls home. This region is one of the most isolated and rugged parts of the country, and the many fisheries that make up the Te Urewera and Raukumara Ranges are where Cory has an intimate connection, knowing each like the back of his hand.
The isolated nature of the region results in un-pressured fisheries, where you will be hard pressed to see another angler on your journeys. This has created some of the most stunning fisheries you will find on this planet. And Cory’s regular clients attest this.
Cory is a witty character, who loves to share a laugh with his clients, while at the same time standing true to his dedicated and professional approach to your special day or days. And by way of his passion, etiquette and commitment to being the best for himself and for his clients, he has forged a reputation as one of the most sought after guides in the country.

Chris owns and operates Christchurch based “South Island Adventure Fly Fishing” where he specialises in sight fishing for large Brown and Rainbow trout in the beautiful Canterbury and Westland regions of the South Island of New Zealand (NZ). He loves to add an element of adventure to his fishing guiding by accessing more remote waters, often by utilising his 4WD vehicle. He guides a wide range of waters from small streams and spring creeks to the larger freestone rivers, and offers exciting still-water sight fishing opportunities for large cruising Brown trout along shallow lake margins. Additionally for those guests wanting to utilise a helicopter to quickly access remote headwater fisheries, he caters for single or multi-day backcountry heli-fishing trips, both in Canterbury and on the West Coast.
Chris offers a combination of different package options, and will always try to utilise a variety of waters chosen to suit the sometimes varied physical abilities of his clients, in his quest to provide them with the fly-fishing trip of a lifetime. If necessary, he is always prepared to travel between regions to access fishing locations experiencing better sight fishing conditions in the often highly variable weather conditions that the South Island can seasonally experience, and provides a variety of inter-regional tour options including a pick-up from distant locations. He caters for anglers of all skill levels with quality fishing tackle and custom “Chris tied/designed” flies being utilised to provide every advantage to his guests.
Chris wants a day out on the water with him to not only to be a successful days fishing but also to be an interesting and educational kiwi outdoor experience, as he likes to incorporate information about NZ wildlife, natural history and ecology into a day on the water chasing trout. You will see his passion for the NZ outdoors come alive in his easy going, humorous and friendly attitude towards helping others to achieve their goal of catching some beautiful NZ trout.
Chris’s guiding business consistently practices "Careful Catch and Release” to help to protect existing wild fish populations. Telephone: + 64 272 286 064

Let Greg be your guide along the world famous Brown Trout rivers of the upper South Island of New Zealand. Taking in the rivers of the Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast, Hanmer regions. Greg over the last 8 years has built up an extensive knowledge of the better fish producing rivers in these regions, and combined with an attitude that what you want as an angler comes first will make your trip a very memorable one indeed. Greg prefers to do a multi day tour starting in Christchurch and working up through to Nelson taking in different rivers on the way. He is also quite happy to work the other way i.e. picking up in Nelson and working down to Christchurch. He believes this method gives greater flexibility as well as a good variety of different environments in which to fish. Greg and his family own a piece of farmland in Murchison (1.5 hours from Nelson) which is right on the bank of the Maruia river (the Maruia is a well known trout river in the top of the south island with plenty of 3-5lb Brown Trout). They have a modest 3 bedroom farmhouse on the property, which means you can stay close to the action.

Born and raised in Canterbury I was always drawn to water. In fact dad always thought I was part fish. I grew up on the banks of a local river where my grandparents owned a family batch. As a young fella I would often watch grandad and his mates casting dry flies to large brown trout. Grandad’s love and respect for rivers was infectious and fly fishing soon became an obsession for me too.
Over 35 years I have gained extensive knowledge of local streams, rivers and lakes. The Canterbury region offers a multitude of angling opportunities from stalking mountain streams to streamer fishing for sea run trout. I have been guiding professionally since 1999 and I feel privileged and proud to every time I take people into the New Zealand backcountry and hunt out fine brown and rainbow trout.

Step off your cruise ship and into the water, quite literally, and enjoy a day wading the shallow harbour flats looking for large black stingrays with yellowtail kingfish riding in symbiosis on their backs. These Kingies make bonefish look like puppydogs!

Fly Fishing lakes have long been in my blood being very fortunate to have a father who loved fishing lakes. This meant that most weekends in summer we would spend time fishing lakes as a family. Whilst the main focus of my guiding operation is backcountry rivers, lakes can provide fantastic all year round fishing and are a great places to both guide experts and teach beginners.
We are blessed with many different types of lakes from small intimate tarns to large alpine lakes in scenic high country settings, which commonly hold Rainbow and Brown Trout of good size. I also offer two very specialized options: the first being mountain lake Brook Char, a very fun and unique species to target, secondly fishing for large Searun Brown Trout in coastal lakes, lagoons and estuaries. These are some of the largest most impressive wild trout to be found any place in New Zealand that often occur in groups foraging on the many baitfish. We have some streamer fishing that can be nothing short of spectacular but many times we sight fish using Nymphs and at times dry flies.
I take great delight in sharing very innovative and highly original fly and streamer patterns and have several unique techniques that can be used. The angler is bound to learn a lot and take forward some new adaptive approaches . Lake fishing, depending upon the time of year and mood of the day, can involve a mix of both sight and blind fishing using Dry Flies { we get some lush Beetle and Cicada hatches} Nymphs and streamers. I am happy to supply all gear and cater for all levels and have all year round options .

I started flyfishing in the rivers around the Dunedin district where I was brought up, eventually moving to Taupo to join what was then called the NZ Forest Service as a Ranger Trainee. On leaving the Forest Service I started my own guiding business in the early 80s andin 1987 I joined Simon Dickie and Paddy Clark in the second year of operations at Poronui fishing lodge. There I gained most of my knowledge of the Central North Island back country rivers. Around 1999 I became head guide until Feb 2011 when I left Poronui to concentrate to my own guiding business based out of Taupo. Currently, I have 3 guides on the MA team they are Dave Wood, Duncan Mc Donald and Craig Aspinall. I guide all year round but specialize in back country rivers in the summer time. I guide all levels of clients, from first time people that have never held a fly rod to seasoned experts. As well as guiding my own clients I also guide for: Chris Jolly Outdoors, Huka and Tongariro lodges and then personally guide for some the best agents and outfitters from NZ and overseas.

Go Fish Kiwi offers an unforgettable raft fishing experience on some of the best rivers in New Zealand’s North Island.
Raft fishing gives you the unique advantage of accessing remote, pristine locations that are difficult to reach by foot, allowing us to cover more water in a single day. These off-the-beaten-path rivers are rarely fished, meaning the fish are less pressured and more eager to bite.
Using an oar-powered raft, we navigate the river while you relax and take in the breathtaking scenery, all while waiting for the next great riffle, pool, or drop-off to hop out of the raft and fish. Our expert knowledge spans iconic rivers like the Mohaka, Rangitikei, TukiTuki, Ruamahunga, Whakapapa, and many more.
Your guide, Glenn “Beachy,” is a qualified Grade 3 raft guide with swiftwater rescue training and certification. Go Fish Kiwi also undergoes independent safety audits by Adventure Mark and holds Outdoor First Aid certification, ensuring a safe and enjoyable adventure for all.

Fly fishing for trout in Canterbury and on the West Coast’s many still-water lakes and tarns can be a fun and memorable experience for the visiting angler. Chris from “South Island Adventure Fly Fishing” can take you to fish some of the best still-waters in both nearby regions to target Brown, Rainbow and Brook trout, using a variety of different fishing techniques. Many of these waters are less pressured fisheries compared to a lot of the rivers and streams, and often you will find you are the only angler on the water on any given day.
Chris specialises in spotting and casting to cruising trout along shallow lake margins, sometimes shallow enough to cause the trout’s dorsal fins and tails to break the water’s surface. This close quarter’s sight fishing is heart stopping stuff and is often compared to bone fishing in the tropics, but is instead located in a freshwater environment on shallow sand and mud flats. Trout typically average around 2.5-4lbs but some fisheries have larger fish on average, with 5 - 6.5 pounders and the occasional larger fish being targeted and caught. Casting dry-fly’s and nymphs to sighted fish is exhilarating stuff and is usually the favoured fishing method, however on occasion blind fishing with nymphs or streamers can sometimes be the most efficient method to target some sections of water, not to mention a very relaxing and effective method of fishing some lakes.
If the weather dictates better fishing conditions on the South Island’s West Coast, Chris will often be happy to travel across to fish the various lakes of this region even for just a day, to find better sight fishing opportunities for his clients. Chris’s guiding business consistently utilises careful “Catch and Release” even in the lake fisheries to help to protect existing wild fish populations, into which there can sometimes be little recruitment. I love fishing. And I have fished many parts of the world over my 63 years on this blue spinning globe. I know how I like to be treated. For my own fishing, sometimes I like to start early… or fish late. Walk hard… or just cruise quietly because ‘that’s how I feel today’. I appreciate a guide who will share information, and understand what my goals are when I fish. Help me fish hard when I want… or back off and give me space if that’s what I need. That’s what I will do for you. I will look after you, in the way I like to be looked after when I engage a guide. I want you to have the trip I want to have when I travel to fish. Sometimes it comes down to one guide, one day, one river.. and the best outcome… That is what I want for you.I love 3-5 day adventures with clients that want to go 'back-country' in a hut/s.. or travel to a handful of rivers over several days in a region. I spend my guiding time between North Canterbury and the mid reaches of the South Island's West Coast where I have my own base/fishing retreat with a log burner, dartboard and a cold beverage on hand. I have a passion for all styles of fly fishing but have a particular love for dry fly dropper fishing in small tributaries chasing both brown and rainbow trout.
A bit about me I am born and bred in New Zealand I’ve been fishing since I was old enough to hold a rod and that fishing addiction turned in to fly fishing over the years. My love for fly fishing has taken me all around the beautiful country of New Zealand and abroad.
Once becoming a seasoned angler in fly fishing, I found a love of teaching and seeing my friends and family catching fish on a fly rod in some of New Zealand's amazing locations that fly fishing takes us. Jeff Forsee and Jack Scott of Aotearoa Anglers in Wanaka offer a unique still-water fishing experience from their purpose-built NRS fishing rafts. Fishing the lake edges for cruising trout from the comfort of the raft is both fun and effective.
These oar powered craft offer a stealthy and peaceful approach to a day on the water. Rafts also give access to deeper channels, weed beds, muddy flats, and hidden corners that are otherwise difficult or impossible to reach on foot. They also provide a comfortable platform and a height advantage for sight fishing, similar to the experience of fishing for bonefish from a flats skiff.
We employ a variety of tactics, from nymphs and dry flies to the classic wooly bugger. You'll actively fish from the boat as your guide skillfully navigates through the most productive waters. Along with the fishing, taking in the breathtaking scenery of Central Otago from the raft is an experience in itself.
We welcome fly fishermen and spin anglers of all skill levels, from beginners to experts. Our rafts are suitable for anglers of all fitness levels, accommodating up to two anglers per raft, with a maximum group size of four across our two rafts.
Both Jack and Jeff are accredited New Zealand Raft Association guides, with current swift water rescue certifications and high-level outdoor first aid training. They are also proudly certified by AdventureMark, the highest safety accreditation for adventure activities in New Zealand.
Come and explore the abundant, often overlooked still waters of the South Island with us. For more information or to book, contact us via the link below, or reach Jeff at +64 22 095 4700 and Jack at +64 21 775 210 via phone or WhatsApp.

I started fly fishing at the age of 12 and have been completely immersed in it since. I have fished all over the South Island, particularly in Otago for the last 16 years. As a recreational angler I would fish about 140 days a year, always with adventurous attitude. In 2015 I decided it was time to put that experience to good use, so I became a full time fly fishing guide. I was born in Ireland but visited New Zealand on a one year working holiday visa in 2002. That was it, I was hooked! I returned every October for the following 9 years for 6 months at a time.. just to fish! I also fished much of the globe during those explorative years.
In 2011 I made New Zealand my home. Lake fishing was a big part of my life in Ireland and I've adapted many Irish tactics to suit New Zealand lakes and rivers. I have written about fly fishing for over 10 years with most of that effort going into my very active blog. In 2005 I was one of the first anglers in New Zealand to receive the Casting Instructor Certificate from the Federation of Fly Fishers. I continue to teach fly casting today. In 2008 I was the co-host for a Discovery Channel fly fishing TV show called "Fish This", while more recently took the lime light with Jeff Forsee in "Pure Fly New Zealand" which aired for the first time in October 2016. We have since filmed another episode for the second series which was big hit, representing the series at the “Rise Fly Fishing Film Festival”. The episode from the first series is available on the inflight entertainment on Air NZ! I have over 30 ten minute films on youtube, so there's plenty ways to get to know me a bit before you drop me a line! Fly fishing is my life and I'm dedicated to it. You can contact me on +64 22 0461768 or via my web site.
